Your advertisement should contain a form, which people can fill in, include their name as well as their email address so you can personalise your messages to them, but don't expect them to fill in lots of irrelevant information about themselves straight off (keep it quick and simple). Try and gain subscribers offline as well as on, advertise your free newsletter on promotional materials. When sending email it is important that you have the consent of the customer (that they have signed up and agreed to receiving the email), keep a record of how and when people sign up for your newsletter. If you have an existing relationship (ie they are a current customer), it should be fine to send them an email asking if they'd like to join your newsletter.
